How To Make A Lamp Shade Cover On Your Own
There are a lot of things which add to the décor of the room. It is the furniture, curtains and drapes, flooring and lighting which take maximum attention. Little or no attention is paid to the small items like lamp shades. Well, customizing lamp shades can add to the décor of your room manifold. You can give them a perfect personalized look as per your room. Here are a few tips on how to make a lamp shade cover on your own.

Before you start working on your lamp shade, you need to have certain things in place. A good adhesive, a main frame of the lamp shade, the fabric you want, cloth pins, glue gun, a fabric pen and a pair of scissors. You must have your work station ready. This place should be ideally spacious to allow the mind to work freely. Just see that you cover the work area with newspaper so that you don't stain anything with the glue.

The catch of making a lamp shade cover on your own is the fact that you can select the fabric of your choice. The fabric you select depends on the amount of light you want the lamp to emit. If you want a dim light you can choose a heavy fabric or otherwise go for a lighter one. After you select the fabric you must start by laying fabric on a flat table with the wrong side up. You must roll the lamp on the fabric and mark the boundaries using a fabric pen till you reach the seam of the lamp. Once you are done with the marking, cut the fabric and leave some 2 inches extra cloth on both sides.

After your cloth is ready, you need an adhesive to finally fasten the fabric to the frame of the lamp. Before using the adhesive, check it on a small cloth; it should not harm the fabric or discolor it. If this happens you need to change the adhesive. Get the right adhesive as per your cloth. Now roll the fabric on the lamp shade starting from the edge. You must check time and again for wrinkles etc; adjust the wrinkles time to time. After your job is done, tuck the extra cloth inside the lamp. You must use cloth pins to make sure that the fabric doesn't fall off the lamp until the glue dries.

On top of the lamp shade you can use laces, ribbons, fur and beads to make the lamp shade look different. You can change the cover of your lamp at will. It is not expensive to do so and to make the whole process more exciting, you can have your family members or friends do it with you.
